There are many reasons why I’ve moved most of my writing to Substack over the past few months. Some of these reasons make good and grownup sense, but others are just subjective and petty – and however you look at it, the rationale behind the shift is not very interesting either way. However, it’s worth saying that while this blog remains alive and may spring to life again, the heart of new ideas and progress can be found on https://andtheyellowale.substack.com/
Most of this stuff is free to access, but there are some articles which are reserved for sponsors and supporters. Perhaps it goes without saying that I am extremely grateful to everybody who has chipped in towards And The Yellow Ale – and it’s very encouraging to get new subscribers.
Recent articles on the new blog include:
Heavy Horns – a chance encounter with a herd of Barrosã cattle in the ancient oak forests of northern Portugal – discovering woodpeckers, witches and plenty of common ground with a different Celtic culture.
On the Bollan – Sea fishing on the Isle of Man – in hot pursuit of Manx wrasse.
Quite a Mouthful – Cannibal herons in the soupy swamps of the French Camargue.
Dales Ponies – Up close and personal with some of the most beautiful horses on the planet – to a backing track of curlews and grey partridges in the North Pennine sunset.
Clipping – Shearing sheep in the darkness, and the various weights and measures of mules and blackie ewes.
