In the midst of several writing projects, it’s been helpful to compile articles from here and combine them with new material on a different blog platform. To help straighten my thinking, I’ve set up a new page on Substack – the link is here ->

This blog will keep running as it always did – and I’m always grateful for the support I get here… but if you’re interested in longer ideas, reorganisations of old stuff and bits and pieces of new projects as they’re developed, a parallel (but different) feed will be available on Substack. If you subscribe, you’ll get notifications from there.
After almost 15yrs of WordPress, this is a voyage of discovery, and perhaps I should’ve set off on it years ago. For what it’s worth, Substack is actually easier to use from my end, and it does things that WordPress can’t – including the potential to publish certain things for payment. But as always, I’m slightly hamstrung by an obsessive and singleminded desire to write about the things that interest me… to the point at which I’ve often neglected the equally important idea of promoting and sharing my work.
And if this all sounds unlike me, the name “And the Yellow Ale” is in reference to a fine old Irish song popularised by Luke Kelly and often sung by Ted Hughes – The Brown and the Yellow Ale. Maybe that’s an antidote to a compare and contrast exercise between blogging platforms.
