Hard At It

Still going strong
Still going strong – (this one was in Aberdeenshire)

Worth noting in brief that some greyhens are still visiting the leks, and while they are probably not quite so keen as they were a week or two ago, the general level of blackcock enthusiasm remains undiminished. I had a great opportunity to watch two birds really going at each other at first light this morning on a piece of ground that I thought was dead and gone in terms of blackgame, so there was an extra tweak of pleasure to be had from the display. Watching the spectacle against a backdrop of swallows, cuckoos and the constant, ever-present buzz of drumming snipe, I had to wonder if there is any better reason to get up at 5 am?
