The Summer’s Gone

Going, going, gone…

Just worth recognising the fact that summer is almost over. We’re certainly not in the autumn yet, but this is now the dead water between the seasons. The bracken has gone back, the rowans are coming on and the heather flowers are just turning. In a few weeks, the pinkfoot geese will be here, followed shortly afterwards by the woodcock. It feels like summer is a spent force, exhausted by the cold rain. Autumn is not yet ready to come in and change the situation, so we’re stuck in the middle.

  1. Hi Patrick,

I’m personally looking forward to the Autumn colours and arrival of our Winter migrants.

Just started to read your recently published book on The Black Grouse – really informative and lovely illustrations – fantastic piece of work – well done.

Any ideas for a future publication?
