A Chance Encounter

A lucky shot on the walk round the hill this morning

It was a fine clear morning on the Chayne this morning, and despite the wind, the conditions were actually quite mild. Coming back off the hill after visiting my partridge pens, I came across this roe deer in a scrubby stand of pines and bracken. I am getting to know this deer, which is one of three in that area, and it could be that one will come off the hill over the winter. I’ve been looking for a likely freezer filler for a few weeks, so I need to get in and have a close look to see if any of these deer would be suitable…
