Illustrating a Point

Three blackcock on the Chayne (from sketches made of one)

For the last six months, I have been working on a series of black grouse/moorland related paintings to accompany a project which should come together next year (2012).

As I am beginning to draw the illustrations to a close, I thought it might be worth featuring one on the blog, after an experiment to scan them onto the computer went horribly wrong. I ended up photographing this picture from the paper with a camera, which has thrown some of the colours a bit off and made the blue slightly bluer than it should be, but I hope it gives an idea of what I have been doing.

Part of my work on the Chayne is to use the land as a bit of a publicity case to spread the word about black grouse and get people interested in these dangerously threatened birds. Given that I have now produced over 70 full colour paintings and God knows how many sketches of black grouse and black grouse related subjects, I hope that I can get these brilliant birds some much deserved attention
