
I have been told that my ferrets are extremely overweight. They are certainly consuming a tremendous quantity of food at the moment, but I hadn’t realised their chubbiness until it was bluntly pointed out to me by a fellow ferreting enthusiast. In order to get them up to fighting fitness, I have cut down their diets and have started taking them for long walks on leads and harnesses.
Walking along the track infront of the house as the sun was setting this evening, I heard a familiar cackle off to the east. The sound grew and developed into a chiming chorus of gabbles and squeaks. High up in the pink sunset, a small skein of pink footed geese flew directly over the house. There was time for a quick photograph before they had vanished into the evening again.
It looks like autumn is pushing on at a tremendous pace. I have only ever shot one pink foot; over winter stubble in 2004. Unlike so many local people, I have never really go to grips with the mesmerising skeins, and while I’m delighted to welcome our visitors for another winter in Galloway, I doubt that I’ll have much of a chance to shoot any…
